The Missouri Black Chamber of Commerce is a network of Black business owners who are dedicated to developing meaningful relationships that allow for the benefits of financial literacy and empowerment to properly cycle through our businesses and communities alike.
We were established April 1, 2015 by our founder, Ira Fowlkes. Our chambers currently reside in St. Louis, Festus, Haiti and Kansas City, but we are in partnership with a diverse network of chambers that make up the National Black Chamber of Commerce (NBCC), the oldest Black trade group working for Black business worldwide. Some of our most renowned connections are with Larry Ivory (chairman of the NBCC), Wayne Hubbard and Candice Price (creators of Urban America Outdoors that can be viewed on Bounce TV), and Dr. Bobby Jones of Nashville, Tennessee, who have all been guests on Lunch With The Missouri Black Chamber of Commerce.
We are thankful for all the lives we have touched through our service! We look forward to helping more Black businesses by being a pillar in our communities that has a passion for seeing people who look like us finally have the necessary support system we have longed for on our road to financial equity.
Ira Fowlkes is a man of many talents, vast wisdom, a backstory worthy of a feature length film, and the ability to connect with people with the intention of connecting them to the right people! As the CEO of the MBCC, the well-spoken leader has diligently and strategically built relationships that have opened up a world of possibilities for the members of the chamber. During his tenure, he has been able to partner with Justine Petersen to help members gain funding, financial literacy resources, legal advice and access to secure locations to operate their businesses. He has connected with Dr. James Logan, President of the Indianapolis 500 Speedway, who is a Trailblazers Award Winner. He has been invited to the White House as one of the select members of the NBCC to speak with key department heads. He has created a strong bond with the Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce and even participated in their congressional days where they facilitated vital discussions with the governor, IDOT and other elected officials to further push forward the agenda of Black business at a federal, state and local level. Most recently, he has partnered with the National Black Association of Farmers (NBFA) and TDC to provide internet access to rural communities throughout America. He has also built a partnership with Toyota to be one of our corporate sponsors who provides additional resources to our members. His passion for people and business are constantly on full display through his vibrant personality and inviting smile. The chamber is in good hands and marching towards the future with purpose.
